Pick the form first. The ground, the pixel size, the kilobyte window and the density follow from what that body publishes, the face is placed against guides, and the saved file is measured against the rule.

What this mode does

It opens on Canvas & export with the rule picker at the top. Choosing a rule applies everything it states that could be confirmed — the ground value, the canvas size, the file format, the kilobyte window and the density — in one undoable step. Where the rule states a face height, crown and chin guides appear on the canvas. Save encodes to the window, writes the density, decodes the file again and measures it.

Steps

  1. Open the photographA front-facing photograph against a plain wall gives the selection the clearest edge. Nothing leaves this tab.
  2. Pick what it is forThe picker lists each rule with its flags. A live-capture form or one that forbids software editing says so before anything changes.
  3. Place the faceDrag the photograph on the canvas, or use the sliders under Subject, until the crown touches the top guide and the chin lands in the band.
  4. Check, then saveCheck before saving measures a test file; Save measures the real one. Each failing line has the control that fixes it beside it.

Which rules, and how far to trust them

Every row below was read on the date it carries, from the address it prints. Primary rows come from the issuing body’s own page or document; secondary rows come from a restatement and ship with a confirm-on-the-official-portal label. A row past its review date says “Not re-read since” rather than ageing silently.

Read on 18 October 2026 from what each body publishes, kept by the editor of this site, next read again by 18 April 2027. A row past its review date says so instead of quietly ageing. Recruitment cycles reissue these instructions and states differ from one another, so the notice you are applying under is the one that decides. Addresses are printed rather than linked; copy one into your browser to read the source yourself.

What it cannot do

  • It cannot be used where a form captures the photograph live. NEET and the Staff Selection Commission's new module are marked.
  • It cannot make an edited photograph acceptable where the rule forbids software editing; Check as-is measures the photograph unchanged instead.
  • It does not find or measure a face. The guides are lines; you place the photograph against them.
  • It cannot promise acceptance. The receipt lists what it measured and, just as plainly, what it did not.

Questions about ID photos

My bank form wants 200 × 230 pixels between 20 and 50 KB. Can this do that?

Yes. Pick Public-sector bank recruitment — photograph: the canvas becomes 200 × 230, the export is JPEG, the kilobyte window is set to 20–50 KB and 200 DPI is written into the header. Save searches the JPEG quality until the file lands inside the window, then the receipt reads the bytes back and says whether it did.

How is a kilobyte counted?

Portals disagree on 1,000 or 1,024 bytes, so the window is read the strict way round: at least the minimum times 1,024 bytes and at most the maximum times 1,000. A file inside that range passes either way. The receipt prints the exact byte count.

What if quality alone cannot reach the window?

With a pixel size stated by the rule, the size is kept and the receipt says the file is outside the window, rather than quietly shrinking it into a size the form will reject. Without one, you can let the pixel size come down in steps until it fits.

Does it find my face and crop it?

No. Where the rule states a face height — the passport notice asks for 80 to 85 per cent of the frame — crown and chin guides are drawn on the canvas, and you drag and size the photograph against them. Nothing finds, measures or stores a face; the receipt calls that line geometry.

Can I use this for NEET or SSC?

No, and the picker says so. Both capture the photograph live during the application, so a file prepared elsewhere cannot be uploaded. Those rows are in the table for that reason.

Where do the figures come from?

Each row below names its source, says whether it is the issuing body's own document or a restatement, prints the address it was read from and the date. Rows taken only from restatements are labelled confirm on the official portal, and two rows (PAN and UPSC) apply nothing because no primary figure was found.
