Photograph or scan your signature on paper. The paper's uneven light is measured and divided out, faint strokes are kept, the writing is levelled and cropped, and the file is written to the form's size and kilobyte window.

What this mode does

A phone photograph of a signature is ink on paper that is lit unevenly: brighter near the window, a shadow from the phone across a corner. This page first works out how bright the paper is at every point and divides it out, so the paper becomes one flat value and the ink becomes darkness on it.

It then keeps every pixel that is clearly ink, plus every fainter pixel connected to one — so the thin tail of a letter survives while specks of paper texture are dropped — levels the writing, crops it with a margin, and lays it on pure white or on transparency at the size you pick.

Steps

  1. Sign on plain paperDark ink on white paper, photographed from straight above in daylight, without the phone's shadow if you can.
  2. Open the photoThe ink is found straight away. Raise the sensitivity if a stroke breaks; lower it if paper texture appears.
  3. Pick the sizeSignature, thumb impression or declaration sizes from the bank annexure, its own size, or custom.
  4. Save and read the receiptThe file is encoded to the kilobyte window, 200 DPI is written, and the receipt reads the paper, the ink coverage and the bytes back.

White paper or transparent

Forms want white: a JPEG of black ink on 255 white at the stated pixel size and kilobyte window. The receipt checks the paper value on the saved file.

Transparent is for documents and designs of your own — a PDF you are signing, a letterhead. It is a PNG whose ink pixels carry the stroke as opacity, so it sits on any colour without a white box.

What it cannot do

  • This page does not create or alter a signature, only cleans the paper around it. Using someone else's signature is not something it is for.
  • A signature on lined or patterned paper keeps the lines where they are as dark as the ink. Plain paper works best.
  • Nothing is stored: not the photograph, not the result. Close the tab and both are gone.

Questions about signature background

What size should a signature be for a bank or SSC form?

The public-sector bank annexure used here asks for 140 × 60 pixels, 10–20 KB, at 200 DPI or more, in black ink on white paper. Other forms state their own figures; Custom takes any size and the kilobyte window can be set by hand.

Why not just increase the contrast?

Because the paper is not evenly lit. Contrast makes the bright half of the paper white and the dim half grey, and the shadow becomes a dark blotch. Dividing out the measured paper brightness makes all of it white.

Can I change blue ink to black?

Yes: choose Black under Ink colour. 'As written' keeps the ink's own colour; Blue writes a uniform dark blue.

How do I get a transparent signature?

Choose Transparent under Paper. The file is written as PNG, with each pixel's opacity taken from how much ink it holds.

Is my signature uploaded or saved?

Neither. The photograph is read into this tab, the cleaning is arithmetic in the tab, and the file is written by the tab. Nothing is kept after you close it.
