Works with JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC from an iPhone, GIF and BMP.
Opens on a square profile canvas with the circle your picture will be cropped to drawn over it, so the new background is chosen for what people actually see — with WhatsApp, Instagram and LinkedIn sizes one press away.
What this mode does
A profile picture is saved square and shown as a circle. This mode draws that circle over the canvas and shades what will be cut off, so you place the head inside it and choose a ground for the part that shows — usually a ring around the shoulders.
It opens on the Background layer with the studio try-on grid, where each tile is your own photograph on that ground. Platform sizes are under Canvas & export; the file stays square, because every platform asks for a square and crops it itself.
Steps
- Open a headshotFront-facing, shoulders in frame. A plain wall needs no model; a busy one does better with Quick portrait.
- Place the head in the circleDrag the subject and use the size slider; leave a little room above the hair.
- Try groundsHover the studio tiles to preview, or pick any colour. Light match nudges your face toward the new ground's light if it looks pasted.
- Pick the platform size and saveWhatsApp, Instagram or LinkedIn under Platforms, then save as JPG.
Which ground reads well in a circle
Small circles flatten detail, so a busy backdrop turns to noise at the size people see in a chat list. A soft studio gradient, a single colour or a strong blur of your own room keeps attention on the face.
Dark interfaces make a white ground glare. Profile near-black or the Charcoal and Midnight studio grounds sit well in dark mode without crushing the shoulders.
What it cannot do
- The sizes listed are the ones commonly used; platforms publish minimums rather than one fixed size and may re-compress what you upload.
- Nothing here retouches, beautifies or reshapes a face. Only brightness and warmth of the whole subject can be moved.
- The circle is a guide on the stage, not part of the file.
Questions about profile picture background
What size is a WhatsApp DP?
WhatsApp shows profile photos as a circle and accepts a square image; 500 × 500 is a commonly used size and is the WhatsApp DP preset here. Larger squares work too and are shrunk by the app.
Why is part of my photo shaded?
That is the area outside the circle the platforms crop to. It is still in the saved square file, but nobody will see it in the profile circle.
Can I blur my own background instead of replacing it?
Yes: choose Blur own on the Background layer. The subject is kept out of the blur, so there is no glow around it.
Will it change my face?
No. The subject is left as photographed; light match only moves overall brightness and warmth, and only when you press it.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photograph is read into this tab and the file is written by it.

The image you open is read by this page and by nothing else — there is no server behind this domain that could receive it, the outline is worked out inside your own browser either by arithmetic or by an on-device model, and if you ask for a model it is the model that is downloaded to you rather than your photo being sent to it.
